Just on a whim, I tried validating the ports and such further in most functions, and it seems to have fixed the two cases of crashing we've experienced recently. I haven't dug deep into the exact cause of this and I think this may be a tad excessive? But it at least seems to work.
This PR essentially just validates the provided port to functions to not be null and to have a valid handle, and for the retrieved port name to not be null. I have not experienced any issues in my limited testing with this patch.
