I am having the same issue.

Installing manually worked though:

Steps to repro:

1. Register new Ubuntu WSL instance (from PowerShell):

   wsl --install Ubuntu-24.04

2. Launch the new Ubuntu instance (and set the user account as prompted).

3. Follow instructions in the MSFT docs for installing on Ubuntu 24.04

   sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dotnet/backports
   
   sudo apt-get update && \
     sudo apt-get install -y dotnet-sdk-10.0

Expected result

Dotnet SDK version 10.0 is installed.

Actual Result

$ sudo apt-get update && \
  sudo apt-get install -y dotnet-sdk-10.0

While setting up a new laptop, I noticed this when running the installation instructions:

Currently available Ubuntu releases and .NET backports:

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute Raccoon)

Notice, that .NET 10 isn't yet available for Ubuntu 24.0.4, which is what I am running.

So manual install it will be for now.

Getting this with Ubuntu 25.04, running on x86_64 metal. So it is a versioning issue.

FYI: Installing dotnet-sdk-10.0 on FedoraLinux-43 (WSL) using dnf does work.

Seems to work fine if I add the repository first before installing the sdk as suggested here

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dotnet/backports
