I am unable to build DataCapture1

I spent a little bit of time trying to build this example application.  I feel that the content is good and worthwhile, and would like to be able to play with it and test.  I spent a little bit of time but there appears to be some gradle issues and I ended up with it saying it failed to resolve the com.android.support:appcompat.
